Bucharest has more beautiful terraces than anyone manages to see in a single summer. There are gardens hidden behind interwar houses, terraces on the lakeshore, courtyards roofed with vines, and wooden decks under old trees. The problem is not a shortage of options — it is that every evening asks for something different. A long lunch in the shade does not belong in the same place as a birthday for ten, or as an evening that ends after midnight.
The guide below is organised by area, because in Bucharest distance matters more than almost anything else. For each terrace you will find the address, an honest description, and three ratings: atmosphere, menu variety and how accessible it is on price. We have included our own terrace, marked as such, so you know from the start where we stand.
How to read the ratings
We used three criteria, each scored from one to five points:
- Atmosphere — how far the place takes you out of the city: greenery, light, quiet, and the way the space is put together.
- Variety — how broad the menu is: food, drinks, options for mixed groups.
- Accessibility — how accessible the prices are. Five points means the most budget-friendly, one point means the most expensive. The price band (€) is listed separately.
Floreasca and the lakeshore
Over the past few years Floreasca has become the area with the highest density of good terraces in Bucharest. It has the advantage of the lake, of wide streets, and of a crowd that goes out often and stays late.

Good for groups, and for evenings with no closing time in mind.

Grădina Floreasca
Floreasca · B-dul Mircea Eliade 16An urban oasis where the restaurant, the terrace and the pool share the same patch of green. Although it sits in the middle of one of the liveliest neighbourhoods in the city, the atmosphere manages to make you forget for a few hours that you are in town at all. It works equally well for a long lunch, an afternoon by the pool, or a summer evening spent outdoors.

Guava
Floreasca · Strada Țărmului 9On the shore of Lake Floreasca, Guava is more than a terrace: garden, pergolas, covered lounge, pool and restaurant, all in the same space. Old trees, tables on wooden decks and greenery everywhere give it, in summer, the air of a holiday destination. The kitchen combines Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and Lebanese influences with fresh dishes and creative cocktails.

Herastrau and the north of the city
The north has the parks and the lakes, and therefore the largest gardens. It is the area you head for when you want real trees rather than plants in pots, and where booking ahead for the weekend is worth the trouble.
BOSCO

Biutiful by the Lake
Herăstrău · Șoseaua Nordului 7–9A terrace on the shore of Lake Herăstrău, with a Mediterranean kitchen and a DJ at weekends. It runs seasonally and has the best ratio of view to energy: it starts as a dinner and usually finishes later than planned.
Stadio Park
Herăstrău · Șoseaua Nordului 7–9Right inside Herăstrău Park, with an elegant setting and an international and Italian kitchen. It takes dogs, which in Bucharest cuts the list of options down considerably, and it is one of the terraces that works well at lunch too, not only in the evening.
Casa Doina
Aviatorilor · Șos. Pavel D. Kiseleff 4A neo-Romanian building from 1892, with one of the most generous gardens in the city. Romanian and international cooking, live music, and the kind of setting you choose for birthdays, proposals and large family meals.
The centre and the Victoriei area
In the centre, the beautiful terraces are almost always hidden: inner courtyards, gardens behind old houses, greenhouses turned into bars. They are smaller, but also more intimate.
Sera Eden
Piața Romană · Str. C.A. Rosetti 37The former greenhouse of the Brătianu house, turned into a hub of urban mixology. A generous space, dense greenery, and one of the best atmospheres in the centre for drinks. The place where you start the evening, not necessarily the one where you have dinner.
Grădina Povernei
Victoriei · Strada Povernei 22An old house with rooms done up around themes and a green garden hidden at the back. International dishes and local reinterpretations. The kind of place you find once and then recommend to everyone.
Restaurant Savart
Victoriei · Str. George Enescu 2–4Next to the Athenaeum, with a French-Romanian kitchen and a quiet terrace sheltered from the traffic around it. One of the best choices in the centre for dinner for two.
Rare Garden
Ștefan cel Mare · Strada Tunari 34An urban garden with a romantic feel, a kitchen that mixes Romanian, urban and international, and a solid list of signature cocktails. It works well for small groups too.
Edo Sushi & Garden
Știrbei Vodă · Str. Știrbei Vodă 84AJapanese cooking with Western influences, in a quiet garden. Nigiri, sushi and ramen, in a more discreet setting than the other terraces on the list.

When terraces open in Bucharest
The season usually begins in April and runs until September or October, depending on how mild the autumn is. Covered or heated terraces extend the season by a good few weeks, and a handful run all year.
A few practical things if you are planning a night out in season: book on Thursday for the weekend, ask whether the terrace is covered in case of rain, check whether the place takes dogs if you are bringing one, and for groups of more than six call directly rather than booking online — most terraces handle large tables separately.
